Walking toward your essential
If you enjoyed the book Walking toward your essential, there’s a good chance you’ll love the movie Paths of Life too.
At 30, I set out on the Camino de Santiago, walking toward my essential—and that journey transformed my life. It led me to create a documentary and start writing books.
The movie Paths of Life is a human and spiritual adventure, capturing the magic of the Camino through the voices of fellow pilgrims, and moments from my own path.

Synopsis
Just before reaching her thirties, Pauline leaves her stressful Parisian life and decides to walk alone from Alsace in the direction of Santiago de Compostela in Spain.
During her 4-month walk through France and Spain – about 2000 km by foot – she meets numerous other pilgrims and asks them why they are walking and what the Camino brings them.
Whether it be a need to “reconnect oneself” in a world that goes too fast, a desire for challenge and new encounters, or a spiritual quest, every path is unique.
This movie talks about a generation of pilgrims, ready to question their habits and to open to the unknown and the magic of life.
Walking toward the essential, what if it started with a movie?
A whisper …
I hear that whisper as I walk in 2017…
A film to give voice to those who walk, and to reveal the magic of the Path.
Not my path, but the Path.
The Path of Life.
The path that so many of us walk, every single day.
Giving a voice to the pilgrims
resonates with them, in order to move toward a deeper, more internal, less material kind of comfort.
I have some basic video editing skills, and I’ve already done a few interviews. But I’m well aware that making a film requires content, gear, and know-how: footage of me walking, landscapes, a better camera, a microphone.
I’m thinking—it might be a bit of a challenge.
And why not?
Step by step, my mind slowly shifts from saying, “It’s impossible,” to

« Walking toward your essential » The book !
A travel journal
The book Walking toward your essential is a travel journal in which I share my inner journey with you: how I face exhaustion, solitude, the constant stream of anxiety about the future, and the deep questions around the meaning of this walk—but also how I gradually find my way back to my heart and my joy.
Although both take place during my walk on the Camino de Santiago, the film and the book are two very different experiences.
You also see me as a pilgrim. At times, I share my thoughts and emotions in front of the camera.
But my own inner journey remains mostly in the background, as I wanted to give space to all these fellow pilgrims and their voices.
Filled with stories and intimacy!
There are many people I met along the way who appear in the book but not in the film, simply because I didn’t have my camera with me at the time.
You’ll recognize some of the pilgrims from the film in the book, but not all of them, as I returned to the Camino with my camera in 2020, while the book focuses solely on my first journey, which lasted four months.
Step by step, I share with you the lessons the Camino has offered—lessons that can be applied to everyday life.
If you enjoyed the film, there’s a good chance you’ll love the book too—and vice versa.
Excerpt from the book:
« I already had enough on my mind with my questions about where to go and what to do with my life. So, walking along a well-marked path from point A to point B suited me perfectly. This structure would undoubtedly allow me to relax enough to let the magic happen between the departure and the arrival. Also, I said to myself that the movement of my body would certainly be accompanied by a movement of my mind, and would provide answers to my questions: Who am I? What am I supposed to do? What is the meaning of life? How can I be happy in this world? A vast program!»
